Federal programs (available in every state)
LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) — the single biggest source of bill help. Income-based, and the thresholds are often more generous for senior households. Apply through your local community action agency. If you receive SSI, you likely qualify automatically.
Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) — free home improvements (insulation, weather-stripping, furnace repairs) for qualifying low-income households, with priority given to seniors and people with disabilities.
Utility-specific senior discounts
