If you're a New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) customer in the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes, or surrounding areas, community solar is available to you. Here's the specifics.

What NYSEG customers get

Community solar credits appear on your NYSEG bill each month, reducing what you owe. The standard savings rate is 5% of credit value. Households receiving government assistance (HEAP, SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, TANF) may qualify for up to 20%.

NYSEG serves the Southern Tier and parts of the Finger Lakes and Hudson Valley, including Binghamton, Ithaca, Elmira, Corning, Cortland, Oneonta, and Geneva. If your electric bill says NYSEG at the top, you're in the right territory.

How it differs from National Grid or Central Hudson

The program structure is the same across New York utilities — NYSERDA oversees community solar statewide. The difference is which solar farm you're matched to (it needs to be in your utility's territory) and the specific bill format. Your savings rate is the same regardless of which NY utility you're on.
