Where the discount comes from
The state's clean energy programs fund local solar farms that supply the same grid Illinois already runs on. Join, and you're allocated a share of a farm's output — its credits show up on your National Grid bill monthly.

How enrollment works
Enrollment is with Ampion, a public benefit corporation that's been running solar programs across the country since the state programs opened up. You sign up online, nothing gets installed at your home, and credits appear on your existing bill.

Is this a government program?
The savings come through Illinois's state-supported clean energy programs, but enrollment is with Ampion Renewable Energy, a public benefit corporation — not a government agency. Your National Grid service stays exactly the same.
Does it cost anything to join?
No sign-up fees, deposits, equipment, or installation costs. Nothing is installed at your home and there's nothing to buy.
How much can I save on my National Grid bill?
Most households keep 5% of their monthly credit value as savings. If you receive assistance — LIHEAP, SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, TANF, ACP (Affordability Connectivity Program), Federal Public Housing Assistance, Lifeline, or Veterans Pension — you may qualify for up to 20%. Eligibility is verified during enrollment.
I rent in Illinois. Can I still join?
Yes. Your share lives at a solar farm, not your building, so renters qualify the same as homeowners — no landlord involvement needed.
Will my lights or service change?
No. Same National Grid delivery, same wires, same reliability. The only change is credits appearing on your bill.
Will I get one bill or two?
In Illinois it depends on the project, not the state. Illinois is moving toward consolidated billing, where your solar credits and charges both appear on your ComEd or Ameren bill — one bill. But many projects still use dual billing: your utility bill arrives with the credits deducted, and the solar provider bills you separately for those credits at a discount.
